WEST CARLETON ENVIRONMENTAL CENTRE WORKSHOP

Waste Management has set up an additional Workshop in Stittsville for residents to participate in the consultation process as part of the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the new West Carleton Environmental Centre proposal.

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

St. Stephen Catholic School (Jackson Trails subdivision)

1145 Stittsville Main St.

6:00p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

As you know, WM have initiated an Environmental Assessment (EA) seeking approval for a new landfill footprint at the existing Ottawa Waste Management Facility (Ottawa WMF). The new landfill footprint will be one component of the proposed WCEC.

The proposed WCEC will be an integrated waste management facility that will include:

· Waste diversion and recycling operations;

· Composting Operations;

· Renewable energy facilities;

· Recreational lands for community uses; and,

· A new landfill footprint for disposal of residual waste materials.

The WCEC Workshop(s) have been designed to provide an additional avenue for consultation with local residents, businesses, agencies and interested stakeholders. The WCEC Workshop will be interactive and will facilitate discussion on the need/rationale for additional waste disposal capacity, the proposed alternatives to the undertaking, the alternative methods or footprint options, and the criteria and indicators to be used in evaluating the alternative methods.

Your input at this workshop will be reviewed and incorporated by WM and the Project Team when preparing the TOR prior to submission to the Minister of Environment.
